Freeport-McMoRan is the latest company in the industry to be hit by a cyberattack. The U.S-based miner said on August 11 that it was investigating a cybersecurity incident affecting its information systems.
The company said it was assessing the impact and proactive measures are being taken to address the situation. To date, there has been limited impact on production.
“Transitional solutions are being planned and implemented to secure information systems as quickly as possible,” said Freeport-McMoRan, noting that it continues to prioritize safety and responsible production practices.
It is working closely with third-party experts and law enforcement.
Last month, Norwegian mining and recycling giant TOMRA said it discovered an extensive cyberattack directly affecting some of the company’s data systems.
